Trabzonspor to name Istanbul street after Mohamed Salah

Trabzonspor have announced plans to name the street where Mohamed Salah lives in Turkey after the Liverpool forward, according to Mustafa Biyik, the mayor of Yomra in Trabzon.

Biyik made the announcement on Twitter, saying the local authority was proud that Salah, whom he described as “the greatest signing in the history of Turkish football”, would be living in the area.

“We are proud that Mohamed Salah is the greatest signing in the history of Turkish football and will live in our district,” Biyik wrote.

He added that a decision would be put before the municipal council during the week to formally name the street after the Egypt international.

“By a decision of the council that we will take this week, we have decided to name the street where his home is located ‘Mohamed Salah’,” Biyik said.

“We have done everything we can, and now it is Mohamed Salah’s turn,” he added.

The announcement comes before Trabzonspor’s next fixture, with the club due to face Amedspor on Monday evening. The match is scheduled to kick off at 21:30 Cairo time and will be played at Diyarbakir Stadium, which is described as Trabzonspor’s home ground for the fixture.

The game will be broadcast on beIN Sports 2, with former Egypt international Mohamed Barakat providing commentary.

Trabzonspor go into the match after a heavy European defeat. They were beaten 4-0 by Ferencvaros on Thursday, a result which ended their Europa League campaign and saw them move into the Conference League.

Following that loss, Fatih Tekke announced his resignation as Trabzonspor manager. However, the club’s administration rejected the resignation and Tekke remained in his position.

Salah scored his first goals for Trabzonspor in the club’s previous league match against Istanbul Basaksehir. He struck twice in a 2-1 victory, opening his account for the club and securing all three points.

He will now attempt to continue that scoring run against Amedspor as Trabzonspor look to respond to their European disappointment.

The proposed street-name change still requires approval from Yomra’s municipal council, with the decision expected to be considered this week. If approved, the street where Salah’s home is located will carry his name.
