Leif Davis fires Ipswich Town ahead against Manchester United in Premier League

Leif Davis put Ipswich Town in front against Manchester United with a direct strike from inside the penalty area that struck the crossbar before finding the net.

The goal was the clearest reward for a positive spell from Ipswich, who had already tested Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens several times. Davis received the ball and drove his effort towards the top-left corner, but Lammens produced an excellent save to deny him before the Ipswich defender found a way through.

Ipswich also threatened when Daizen Maeda collected a pass, created space and sent a shot towards the top-right corner. Lammens again intervened, turning the attempt behind for a corner.

Julio Enciso then made his way into the penalty area after a solo run and aimed for the bottom-right corner, but his effort was stopped by Lammens.

Manchester United had the greater share of possession, controlling 62% of the ball compared with Ipswich Town’s 38%, but they struggled to convert that advantage into clear chances.

Bruno Fernandes saw a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area blocked by the defensive wall after a poor delivery. Marcus Rashford also tried from a medium distance, although his free-kick was badly struck and flew high into the stands.

Rashford later sent a long-range effort towards goal, but an Ipswich defender got in the way. He also played Matheus Cunha into space, with Cunha reacting quickly to shoot from medium range, although the ball sailed over the crossbar.

Diogo Dalot looked to create an opportunity with a cross, but an Ipswich defender intercepted and cleared the danger. Later, Dalot met a pass on the edge of the penalty area and directed a shot towards the top-left corner, only for Kjell Scherpen to make a last-second save.

Lisandro Martinez attempted to find Luke Shaw with a long through-ball, but the Ipswich defence dealt with it. Youri Tielemans also tried his luck from distance, although his shot was blocked.

Ipswich continued to look for openings on the break. Marcelino Nunez attempted a through-ball towards Maeda, but a defender cut it out, before another Nunez cross was headed away. Maeda then sent the ball into the penalty area, where Lammens moved quickly to claim it.

Sasa Lukic was shown a yellow card for Ipswich Town.

There were also spells of patient passing between Manchester United players in midfield as they attempted to build pressure. The match listing included Abdul Fatawu Issahaku among the players involved.

The contest was taking place during the second week of the Premier League, with Ipswich Town seeking to make the most of their attacking opportunities against a Manchester United side enjoying the larger share of possession.
