Paris beat Nice 3-0 as Mohamed Abdelmonem makes second Ligue 1 appearance

Paris moved to the top of the French league after beating Nice 3-0, with Mohamed Abdelmonem starting for the visitors before being substituted in the second half.

Abdelmonem, the Egypt international, completed his second consecutive Ligue 1 appearance of the season. He was named in the starting line-up against Paris and played until the 73rd minute, when Antoine Mendy came on in his place.

The defeat leaves Nice 17th in the table, one place above the bottom, with one point from their opening two matches. Paris, meanwhile, have four points and lead the standings after the second round of fixtures.

Lassine Sinayoko gave Paris the lead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute. Nice were unable to respond before half-time, and Paris extended their advantage six minutes after the interval.

Samir Cherki doubled the home side’s lead in the 51st minute with a finish from inside the penalty area. The goal put Paris in control and increased the pressure on Nice as they attempted to recover from their slow start.

Abdelmonem’s evening ended with 17 minutes of normal time remaining, when Mendy replaced him. The Egypt international had also featured in Nice’s opening league match against Lorient, although he came on as a substitute in the 88th minute on that occasion.

Paris missed an opportunity to add a third goal in the 86th minute when Patrick Zabi failed to convert after finding himself completely clear of the Nice defence.

The hosts did not have to wait long for another chance, however. Vincent Marchetti completed the scoring three minutes later, in the 89th minute, with a first-time shot from inside the box.

The result means Paris have collected four points from their first two matches and sit at the summit of the French league table. Nice remain on one point and occupy 17th place, which is second from bottom.

For Nice, the match followed a narrow opening-round return of one point against Lorient. Their next fixtures will give them the opportunity to move away from the relegation places, while Paris will look to maintain their position at the top after making a strong start to the campaign.

The three-goal defeat also marked a difficult outing for Abdelmonem in his first start of the season. Although he was involved from the beginning, Nice were unable to contain Paris after Sinayoko’s penalty and conceded twice more in the second half.
