Egypt welcomes Kemo Ceesay’s appointment as Gambia football chief

Kemo Ceesay has been elected president of the Gambia Football Federation, with Egyptian Football Federation president Hany Abou Rida congratulating him and calling for closer cooperation between the two organisations.

Abou Rida conveyed his message in a letter addressed to Ceesay after the change in leadership at the Gambia Football Federation. He welcomed the choice of the federation’s new executive team and expressed his hope that the two bodies could work together to support the continued progress of Gambian football.

The Egyptian football chief said cooperation between the federations could help Gambia’s game develop further, both domestically and on the international stage.

“On behalf of the Egyptian Football Federation and on my own behalf, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to you on your election as president of the Gambia Football Federation. I wish you every success in your new role and am convinced that, under your leadership, Gambian football will continue to develop and achieve further success, both nationally and internationally,” wrote Hany Abou Rida.

Ceesay’s election means the Gambia Football Federation has a new president at the head of its governing structure. Abou Rida’s response represents an early expression of support from another national football association for the federation’s new leadership.

The Egyptian Football Federation president focused his message on the prospects for progress under Ceesay’s direction. Rather than limiting his congratulations to the election itself, he highlighted the importance of relations between the two institutions and the potential for joint support as Gambian football seeks further advancement.

His letter also recognised the responsibility attached to Ceesay’s new position. Abou Rida said he was confident that the new president could oversee continued development and help Gambian football secure additional achievements at national and international level.

The message from Egypt comes after the Gambia Football Federation selected its new leadership team, with Ceesay taking responsibility for the organisation. No further details about the election or the composition of the new executive team were provided.

For now, the central response to Ceesay’s appointment has come from the Egyptian Football Federation, which has welcomed the result and offered its support. Abou Rida’s comments establish cooperation as a key theme in the relationship between the two federations as the new Gambian administration begins its work.

The congratulations underline Egypt’s positive view of the leadership change in Gambia. Abou Rida’s wishes for success, combined with his call for collaboration, place the development of Gambian football at the centre of his message.

Ceesay will now lead the Gambia Football Federation, while the Egyptian Football Federation has made clear that it wants the two organisations to work together in support of the country’s football ambitions.
