Al Shamal’s Mohamed Rabie Hrimat to undergo surgery after cruciate ligament tear

Al Shamal have confirmed that Morocco international Mohamed Rabie Hrimat has suffered a cruciate ligament tear and will require surgery.

The 32-year-old midfielder sustained the injury during Al Shamal’s 3-1 victory over Al Gharafa in the second round of the Qatar league.

Al Shamal announced the diagnosis on Saturday after medical examinations confirmed the extent of the damage. The Qatari club said Hrimat would undergo an operation, with the date of his return to competitive football to be decided afterwards.

“the Moroccan player will undergo surgery, after which his return date to the pitches will be determined,” Al Shamal said on their official website.

The injury comes only shortly after Hrimat joined Al Shamal during the current summer transfer window. He moved to the club from FAR Rabat, with his contract in Qatar running until the summer of 2028.

Hrimat attracted considerable attention after an impressive display for Morocco at the 2025 Arab Cup. The tournament was held in Qatar and ended with Morocco, known as the Atlas Lions, being crowned champions.

His injury was also acknowledged in a message published by Al Shamal on social media. The club expressed its hope that he would recover quickly and return to action soon.

“We wish our player Mohamed Rabie Hrimat a speedy recovery and a quick return to the pitches,” the club posted.

The injury occurred in a positive result for Al Shamal, who defeated Al Gharafa 3-1 in their second league fixture. However, the club’s confirmation means Hrimat now faces a period away from football while he undergoes treatment and rehabilitation.

Al Shamal have not yet provided a projected timetable for his comeback. The club said that a return date would be established after the operation.

Hrimat’s arrival had followed his successful involvement with Morocco at the 2025 Arab Cup, where his performances helped raise his profile before his move to Qatar. He had joined Al Shamal from FAR Rabat on a deal scheduled to keep him at the club through to 2028.

The announcement was accompanied by a message of support from Al Shamal, with the club’s social media post including a link to its statement and prayers for the player’s recovery.
