Wydad secure Sofian Hetli as Morocco return follows Telstar promotion

Wydad Athletic Club have officially signed striker Sofian Hetli from Dutch club Telstar, giving the Moroccan side another attacking option as they prepare for the new season.

The deal was announced on Saturday, with Hetli agreeing to a two-year contract that includes the possibility of a further one-year extension. He becomes the latest arrival at Wydad as the club continue to reshape their squad during the summer transfer window.

The move had been nearing completion for several days, but the announcement was delayed while the two clubs and the player finalised a number of minor contractual details. Those issues have now been resolved, allowing Wydad to confirm the transfer.

Hetli spent last season with Telstar and played a part in the club’s promotion to the Dutch top flight. After helping the Dutch side secure their place in the Eredivisie, the striker has chosen to begin a new chapter by returning to Morocco with Wydad.

His arrival strengthens the options available to Wydad in attack and forms part of the club’s wider preparations for the campaign ahead. The club are continuing to work in the summer market as they seek to build a squad capable of competing more strongly in domestic and continental football.

Wydad are targeting a more competitive performance next season and have been pursuing additions who can contribute to those ambitions. Hetli’s signing provides the latest indication of their plans, following a transfer that combines experience of Dutch football with a return to the Moroccan game.

The forward’s contract gives Wydad control of his immediate future for at least two seasons, while the additional-year option could extend the agreement beyond that initial period. The club did not announce further contractual details.

For Hetli, the move follows a significant season with Telstar, during which the team achieved promotion. He now returns to Morocco to represent Wydad, with the club expecting him to contribute as they prepare for both their domestic programme and their continental objectives.

Wydad’s summer recruitment is expected to remain focused on reinforcing the squad in several areas. The club’s stated aim is to enter the new season with a stronger group of players and greater ability to compete on both fronts.

The agreement with Hetli has now been formally completed, ending the brief period of uncertainty created by the outstanding contractual details and confirming him as the latest addition to the Wydad squad.
