Hull City keep pace with Manchester City as Everton rescue point at Bournemouth

Hull City continued their remarkable start in the Premier League by beating Coventry City 1-0 away from home, while Everton scored late to draw 1-1 with Bournemouth and avoid defeat.

The newly promoted Hull City made it two wins from two matches with victory at Coventry City. Their latest success follows an opening-day win over Manchester United, giving them six points from their first two games and placing them level with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Hull’s decisive goal came in the 82nd minute. Liam Millar finished after breaking through one-on-one from the halfway line, following a pass from Mohamed Belloumi. Belloumi is the son of former Algeria international and national-team legend Lakhdar Belloumi.

The result leaves Coventry City without a point after two rounds of the competition. They began the campaign with a 3-0 defeat by Arsenal and were unable to respond against Hull, despite playing at home.

Hull City’s rise to the top end of the table has been built on consecutive victories against established opponents. Their opening win against Manchester United provided an early indication of their potential, and the narrow success at Coventry City ensured they maintained that momentum.

Manchester City remain top of the standings for now, with Hull City matching their total of six points. The result at Coventry also means Hull remain among the early leaders after the opening two rounds.

Elsewhere, Everton came from behind to draw 1-1 with Bournemouth in a closely contested away fixture.

Bournemouth took the lead in the 41st minute when Alex Scott struck with an excellent effort. Everton were forced to wait until stoppage time before finding an equaliser, with James Tarkowski heading home to secure a point.

The late goal moved Everton on to four points and into third place in the table. Bournemouth, meanwhile, collected their first point of the Premier League season after losing their opening match.

Everton’s result ended with both sides sharing the points, but the visitors had to show patience before their pressure finally produced an equaliser. Tarkowski’s header in added time ensured Everton avoided defeat, while Bournemouth were left with a draw despite holding the lead for most of the second half.

After two rounds, Manchester City and Hull City occupy the leading positions on six points, Everton have four points in third, and Bournemouth have opened their account with one point. Coventry City remain without a point following successive defeats by Arsenal and Hull City.
