Liverpool held to another 2-2 draw as Nottingham Forest claim first point under Oliver Glasner

Liverpool were held to their second successive 2-2 draw in the Premier League after Nottingham Forest twice took the lead at Anfield.

Dan Ndoye and Morgan Gibbs-White scored for Forest, while Alexander Isak and Victor Munoz replied for Liverpool.

Liverpool opened their campaign with the same scoreline against Newcastle United and now have two points from their first two matches. They are only the second side in Premier League history to begin a season with two consecutive 2-2 draws, after Everton did so in 2014-15.

The result also marked the first point Nottingham Forest have collected under new manager Oliver Glasner.

Liverpool had made two changes to the side that started against Newcastle, with Alexis Mac Allister and Victor Munoz coming into the starting XI in place of Ryan Gravenberch and Rio Ngumoha.

Forest began with the greater threat and almost opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Jeremy Jacquet reacted quickly to prevent Igor Jesus from finishing from inside the six-yard box, turning the ball behind for a corner.

The visitors continued to press and took the lead in the 24th minute. A long clearance from the goalkeeper was followed by a pass into the penalty area, where Dan Ndoye controlled the ball before shooting low to Alisson’s left.

Liverpool thought they had levelled eight minutes later when Florian Wirtz found the net, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for offside against Jeremie Frimpong.

Wirtz went close again when his header appeared destined for the corner, but Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels got fingertips to the ball to preserve his side’s advantage.

Alisson then kept Liverpool within one goal shortly before half-time, saving from Igor Jesus in the second minute of added time with assistance from the crossbar. Forest therefore went into the interval 1-0 ahead.

Liverpool eventually found an equaliser in the 60th minute. Cody Gakpo delivered a cross into the area and Alexander Isak converted to make it 1-1.

The assist took Gakpo to 50 Premier League goal contributions for Liverpool, comprising 33 goals and 17 assists.

Forest regained the lead 10 minutes later after a defensive error from Liverpool resulted in a penalty. Alisson Becker was judged to have fouled the attacker, and Gibbs-White sent the spot-kick beyond him in the 70th minute.

It was Gibbs-White’s 13th Premier League goal since the start of 2026, a total that puts him ahead of every other player in the competition during that period.

Liverpool responded again, with Munoz producing a powerful finish from inside the penalty area in the 82nd minute to restore parity.

The hosts pushed for a late winner and created pressure in the closing stages, but Forest held on to secure a share of the points. The draw recalls Liverpool’s previous season-opening sequence of two stalemates in 2022-23, when they ultimately finished fifth.
