Manchester United face Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in 2026-27 Champions League schedule

Manchester United will begin their 2026-27 Champions League league-phase campaign at home to Sabah FC on 10 September, before hosting Bayern Munich and travelling to face Atletico Madrid later in the competition.

The dates for United’s eight league-phase fixtures have been confirmed, with the club returning to the Champions League for the first time since the 2023-24 season.

United will face Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid from the top seeding pot, as well as Como, Roma, Sporting Lisbon, Leipzig, Villarreal and Sabah FC.

Their opening match against Sabah FC will take place at Old Trafford at 22:00 on 10 September. They will then travel to the Riyadh Metropolitano to play Atletico Madrid on 13 October, with kick-off at 22:00.

United’s third game will be away to Como at Giuseppe Sinigaglia on 21 October. That match is scheduled to begin at 19:45.

Roma will provide the opposition at Old Trafford on 3 November, in a fixture which will start at 22:00. United will then visit Sporting Lisbon at Jose Alvalade on 25 November, with the match also scheduled for a 22:00 kick-off.

The next home fixture comes against Leipzig on 8 December, before Bayern Munich visit Old Trafford on 20 January. Both matches are due to start at 22:00.

United will complete the league phase away to Villarreal at Estadio de la Ceramica on 27 January, with that game also scheduled for 22:00.

The league phase begins on 8 September and concludes on 27 January 2027.

United’s last Champions League appearance came in 2023-24, when they were eliminated after a difficult group-stage campaign. Their most recent meeting with Bayern Munich came during that season, when the German side won 1-0 at Old Trafford.

The Premier League club are seeking their first Champions League triumph under the competition’s new format and a fourth European Cup or Champions League title overall.

The revised league phase replaces the traditional group-stage system. Manchester United will play eight matches against eight different opponents, with the final standings determining which teams progress to the knockout rounds. The confirmed fixture list gives United four home matches at Old Trafford and four away games, including trips to Madrid, Como, Lisbon and Villarreal.

Their schedule is significant because it includes two meetings with teams from the highest seeding pot and a home fixture against Bayern Munich, who have already beaten United at Old Trafford in their previous Champions League encounter.
