Liverpool and Nottingham Forest remain level after goalless opening 15 minutes in Premier League week two

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest were still locked at 0-0 after the opening quarter of an hour in their Premier League week-two meeting, with both sides having defended set-piece deliveries effectively.

The match began with Liverpool attempting to establish possession in midfield, but their early passing exchanges failed to create a clear opportunity in front of goal. Players in red moved the ball through the centre of the pitch with a series of short passes, although Nottingham Forest’s defensive shape prevented those combinations from developing into a threat.

Nottingham Forest then produced the first notable attacking moment. A cross was delivered into the Liverpool penalty area, where Dan Ndoye rose to meet it with a header. His effort, however, travelled wide of the goal and the score remained unchanged.

Liverpool were subsequently penalised for an offside offence involving Alexander Isak, bringing one of their early attacking movements to an end.

Both teams also had opportunities to deal with dangerous crosses from corners. Nottingham Forest won a corner that was sent into Liverpool’s penalty area, but Milos Kerkez cleared the delivery successfully. Liverpool later gained a corner of their own and placed another cross into the box, only for Jeremy to head the ball away and remove the immediate danger.

The contest remained closely fought in the middle of the pitch, where Nottingham Forest were awarded a free-kick after a foul on James McAtee. That stoppage offered Forest another chance to relieve pressure and interrupt Liverpool’s efforts to build sustained possession.

Liverpool continued to look for an opening goal, but their work in possession had not yet produced a decisive final pass or a clear attempt on target. Their short passing in midfield allowed them to retain the ball for periods, though Nottingham Forest remained capable of disrupting the rhythm and defending their penalty area.

After 15 minutes, neither side had found the breakthrough. Nottingham Forest’s best moment had come through Ndoye’s header, while Liverpool’s early progress had been limited by an offside call and Forest’s successful work defending corners. The match therefore remained goalless as the opening stages of the first half continued.
