Saibari provides decisive spark as Bayern Munich open Bundesliga campaign with victory
Ismael Saibari marked his first Bundesliga appearance with two assists as Bayern Munich began the new season with a convincing win over VfB Stuttgart.
The Morocco international started on the substitutes’ bench but made an immediate impact after being introduced by Vincent Kompany. His late contribution helped Bayern secure the result and underlined his growing importance within the manager’s plans.
Dayot Upamecano gave Bayern the lead in the first half, and the hosts took a 1-0 advantage into the interval. Stuttgart responded after the break, with Josha Vagnoman unexpectedly bringing the visitors level.
That equaliser did not change the momentum for long. Michael Olise restored Bayern’s advantage three minutes later to make it 2-1, before Vagnoman turned from scorer to unfortunate contributor by putting the ball into his own net. The goal extended Bayern’s lead to 3-1.
Saibari was then sent on by Kompany and quickly showed why he could become a major figure for the team. Having arrived from PSV, the midfielder needed little time to influence the match and created both of Bayern’s late goals.
With eight minutes of normal time remaining, Saibari supplied the assist for Aleksandar Pavlovic to further strengthen Bayern’s position. He then set up Luis Diaz in stoppage time, completing an impressive Bundesliga debut and contributing to the final score.
The performance immediately strengthens Saibari’s case for a more prominent role under Kompany. His ability to provide creativity from the bench gave Bayern an additional attacking threat and placed him firmly among the leading contenders for regular involvement in the side.
The match also featured Ramon Hendriks, who started for Stuttgart. Former Feyenoord player Leo Sauer was not included in the visitors’ squad because he had not yet recovered sufficiently from his injury.
Bayern will return to action in the DFB-Pokal on 2 September, when they face VfL Osnabruck. Three days later, Der Rekordmeister travel to Schalke 04 in their next fixture.
The opening-day victory gives Bayern a strong start to their Bundesliga campaign, while Saibari’s two assists provide an early indication of the impact he may have during the season. His first appearance in Germany’s top flight could hardly have been more productive, with the Morocco international making his mark immediately after coming off the bench.
