Olivier Letang condemns ‘disgrace’ as PSG escape Lille defeat

Olivier Letang criticised the three minutes of stoppage time awarded by the referee after Lille were denied victory by a dramatic late Paris Saint-Germain comeback in the second round of Ligue 1.

Lille appeared to be heading for one of the biggest results of the weekend after establishing a two-goal lead against the defending champions at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. However, Paris Saint-Germain scored twice in added time to salvage a 2-2 draw, leaving Lille’s president furious at the way his side’s victory disappeared in the closing moments.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Letang expressed his anger inside the stadium after the final whistle. The Lille president reportedly challenged the amount of additional time given by the referee, repeatedly saying: “It’s a disgrace!”

His reaction reflected the extent of Lille’s disappointment after they had controlled the match for almost its entirety while holding the advantage. The home side had looked set to secure all three points and complete a memorable win over the reigning Ligue 1 champions, only for the contest to change completely during the final minutes.

Vitinha gave Paris Saint-Germain hope by reducing the deficit in the 90th minute, with the goal coming in the first minute of added time. Lille were then unable to protect their lead as Marquinhos headed in an equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

The late turnaround transformed the atmosphere at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. What had been a night of celebration for the Lille supporters became one of shock and anger as their team lost a two-goal advantage without having time to recover.
