Al Hilal continued their perfect start to the Saudi Pro League season with a dominant 5-1 victory over Gulf under former Zamalek manager Jose Gomes, leaving their Portuguese coach to suffer another heavy defeat against the Riyadh side.

The result was Al Hilal’s third consecutive league win and came in the fourth round of the competition. Five of the six goals were scored before half-time, as Al Hilal took control of the match with an emphatic attacking display.

The victory also extended Al Hilal’s recent dominance over Gomes. The Portuguese manager had previously lost to the club 9-0 in the first half of last season, when he was in charge of Al Fateh.

Al Hilal made a fast start and opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic delivered a cross into the box, and Mohammed Qader Mitai met it with a powerful header that found the net.

The home side doubled their advantage 14 minutes later. Crysencio Summerville sent the ball across from the left, allowing Milinkovic-Savic to finish first time and register Al Hilal’s second goal.

Gulf reduced the deficit in the 37th minute through Saleh Al-Amri. He met a well-delivered cross with a header and gave the visitors brief hope of recovering from their difficult start.

That hope lasted only three minutes. Theo Hernandez restored Al Hilal’s two-goal cushion in the 40th minute after receiving a precise pass from Mohamed Kanno. Hernandez carried the ball into the penalty area before using his left foot to place a shot into the far corner.

Summerville then added Al Hilal’s fourth goal in the 43rd minute. The winger collected a long pass, drove into the area and moved beyond both the defence and the goalkeeper before completing the move with a finish into the open goal.

Al Hilal completed a remarkable first-half scoring spell in the second minute of added time. Sultan Mandash broke forward during a rapid counter-attack, rounded the goalkeeper and calmly struck the ball into the net to make it 5-1.

The hosts remained in control after the interval, maintaining possession and applying sustained attacking pressure. Neither side was able to add to the score, but Al Hilal comfortably protected their advantage to secure a convincing victory.

Al Hilal now have nine points from the three matches they have played and sit second in the Saudi Pro League table. Leaders Al Nassr have 12 points from four games.

Gulf remain on three points after four matches. Their defeat was another difficult result for Gomes, whose side were unable to contain Al Hilal’s movement and finishing during a first half in which the visitors conceded five times.
