Kaizer Chiefs move Siwelele fixture to Dobsonville after Royal Bafokeng clash

Kaizer Chiefs have moved their Betway Premiership home match against Siwelele from Royal Bafokeng Stadium to Dobsonville Stadium because Marumo Gallants are scheduled to play at the Rustenburg venue two days earlier.

The fixture was originally due to take place at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday, 5 September. Amakhosi have now confirmed that the match will instead be played at Dobsonville Stadium on the evening of Sunday, 6 September.

The change follows a clash involving Royal Bafokeng Stadium and the agreement the venue has with Marumo Gallants, who are set to host Polokwane City on 4 September.

Royal Bafokeng Sport acting managing director Emile Smith told KickOff that staging two Betway Premiership matches within a two-day period would not meet the standards the venue has set for itself.

Smith said the decision was not caused by a breakdown in the relationship between the stadium and Kaizer Chiefs, and indicated that discussions between the two parties about future matches would continue.

“Chiefs and us currently have a very good relationship,” Smith said.

“The reason the game was moved was due to scheduling for Marumo Gallants home match on the 4th. We’re still actively in talks with Chiefs about future opportunities.

“We believe we have one of the best football facilities in the country and want to maintain those standards after all the work we have put in,” Smith revealed.

Gallants moved to Rustenburg before the 2026/27 season and have an agreement with Royal Bafokeng to stage their home fixtures at the newly revamped stadium. The club had been based in Bloemfontein during the previous campaign.

That arrangement means the venue is committed to hosting Gallants’ home match against Polokwane City on 4 September, before Chiefs were due to face the Bloemfontein side there the following day.

Kaizer Chiefs will therefore host Siwelele at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday evening instead.

The fixture change comes after Chiefs dropped points for the second time this season in a 2-2 draw with Richards Bay on Wednesday. The result left Amakhosi third in the standings, two points behind leaders Orlando Pirates.

Their meeting with Siwelele will be the next Betway Premiership assignment for Chiefs, who must now prepare for a home match at a different stadium and on a different day from the one originally scheduled.
