Aston Villa agree €55m deal for PSG forward Ibrahim Mbaye as Liverpool interest grows

Aston Villa have reached a preliminary agreement to sign teenage forward Ibrahim Mbaye from European champions Paris Saint-Germain for €55m, according to The Athletic.

The English club are now working with PSG to complete the final details of the transfer and finish the necessary paperwork. The relationship between Aston Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris and Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is understood to have played an important role in bringing the two clubs towards an agreement.

Mbaye, who is 18, joined the Paris Saint-Germain academy from Versailles in the summer of 2018. He progressed through the club’s youth system before making his first-team debut in August 2024, aged 16.

The forward has made 42 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain’s senior side, scoring four goals and providing four assists. During the previous season, he played 31 matches in all competitions, contributing three goals and two assists.

Those performances have attracted interest from several leading clubs during the current summer transfer window, with Liverpool among the teams most strongly linked with the player. Aston Villa’s agreement would therefore represent a significant move in the race for one of PSG’s highly regarded young attackers.

Mbaye’s international career has also developed rapidly. He previously represented France at youth level before deciding to change his sporting nationality and play for Senegal. He made his debut for the “Lions of Teranga” in November 2025 and has since won 15 caps.

The forward featured in six of Senegal’s seven matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He also started three of the team’s four games at the 2026 World Cup and scored in Senegal’s opening match against France.

A move for Mbaye would become part of a busy summer of recruitment at Aston Villa. The club have completed eight signings so far and are preparing to announce Nicolas Jackson as their ninth addition.

Villa are rebuilding their attacking options after Morgan Rogers left for Chelsea in a club-record £117m deal. They are also facing the possibility of Ollie Watkins moving to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.

The Premier League side have already secured Alejandro Garnacho on a season-long loan from Chelsea and made an intensified attempt to bring in Rafael Leao from AC Milan on loan. That approach came before the Italian club accepted a €45m offer from Turkish side Galatasaray for the Portugal forward.

Aston Villa have also submitted a bid for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, although the proposal did not meet the London club’s valuation. In addition, the club have made an enquiry about suspended Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane.

The proposed deal for Mbaye underlines Aston Villa’s intention to add both depth and youthful potential to their forward line, while also competing with established European clubs for emerging talent. Further work remains before the transfer can be formally completed, but the €55m agreement puts Villa in a strong position to secure the teenager’s signature.
