El Hadji Malick Diouf swaps West Ham for Brentford as Senegal star seals five-year Premier League move

Brentford have completed the permanent signing of Senegal international El Hadji Malick Diouf from West Ham United, adding one of the Premier League’s emerging young full-backs to their squad.

The 21-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with the west London club, with Brentford holding an option to extend the deal by another 12 months. The transfer fee has not been disclosed.

Diouf joins Brentford after a breakthrough campaign in English football, having featured 32 times in the Premier League for West Ham during the 2025/26 season. He contributed five assists while establishing himself as a regular option on the left side of the Hammers’ defence.

His arrival is expected to add further competition and attacking quality to Brentford’s full-back options as the club continues to build around a young and developing squad.

Andrews excited by Diouf arrival

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews believes Diouf fits the club’s recruitment model and has significant room to improve despite already proving himself at Premier League level.

“We’re really pleased that we were able to sign Malick.

“He’s a player that fits our ideal age profile, with lots of room to still develop.

“I think he had a really good year at West Ham in his first season in English football, and some of the qualities and attributes he has as a full-back really add to an already impressive part of our team.

“I’m really keen to get to work with Malick.”

Diouf arrives with considerable experience beyond club football, having represented Senegal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

From Dakar to the Premier League

Born in Dakar, Diouf began his football education at Galaxy Football Academy before moving to Académie Mawade Wade.

His move to Europe came at 18 when he joined Norwegian club Tromsø in February 2023 after impressing during a trial. He made 21 appearances in his first season, scoring three goals as Tromsø secured a third-place finish in the Eliteserien.

That promising campaign earned him a transfer to Czech giants Slavia Prague in January 2024. He marked his league debut for the club by scoring against Karviná the following month.

Diouf took his game to another level during the 2024/25 campaign, registering seven goals and three assists in 27 league appearances as Slavia stormed to the Czech First League title by a 16-point margin. He also gained valuable European experience, featuring 12 times in continental competition.

Senegal star adds international pedigree

West Ham signed Diouf in July 2025, and he made his Premier League debut against Sunderland the following month. His performances quickly established him as a regular member of the first team.

At international level, Diouf made his Senegal debut in September 2024 during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi.

He further enhanced his reputation in June 2025 when he played the full 90 minutes in Senegal’s historic victory over England, becoming part of the first African side to defeat the Three Lions.

The defender subsequently featured at the 2025 AFCON before representing Senegal at this summer’s World Cup.

Now, after just one season in the Premier League, Diouf has secured another major step in his career with Brentford, where Andrews will look to maximise the young defender’s considerable potential.
