Motsepe Foundation Championship: Five teams target consecutive victories

Highbury, Real Native, Hope, Leicesterford and Magesi will be aiming to make it two wins from two when the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) continues this weekend.

Native, formerly known as Casric Stars, will begin the weekend programme with a trip to Upington City at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Saturday. They made a strong start to their campaign last week and will be hoping to maintain that momentum away from home.

Highbury will host newcomers Hope at Nelson Mandela University Stadium on Friday after opening their season with a 2-1 victory over The Bees. Hope also began life in the MFC with an impressive result, beating University of Pretoria 1-0 at home.

The newly promoted side have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of their debut season, bringing in Naledi Hlongwane and Pheko Phago from Kaizer Chiefs on loan this week. They join Samkelo Zwane and Bontle Molefe, who are also on loan from the Soweto club.

Hope will be hoping the four players can bring valuable experience gained in the DStv Diski Challenge and Premiership as they attempt to build on their opening victory.

Gomora United will be looking to turn a draw in their first match into a win when they face Venda FC at Malamulele Stadium. Venda also shared the points in their opening fixture, setting up a contest between two teams searching for their first victory of the campaign.

Orbit College, meanwhile, will try to respond to defeat in their opening match when they welcome Hungry Lions to Olympia Park Stadium on Friday. Hungry Lions will be seeking a positive result on the road as both sides look to establish themselves early in the season.

University of Pretoria will have an immediate opportunity to recover from their 1-0 loss to Hope when they entertain Midlands Wanderers at Tuks Stadium on Saturday.

Magesi, another side to have won their opening fixture, will host The Bees at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The visitors will be determined to overturn the 2-1 defeat they suffered against Highbury last weekend.

All fixtures are scheduled to kick off at 15:00.

On Friday, Highbury play Hope at Nelson Mandela University Stadium, Gomora face Venda at Malamulele Stadium, and Orbit meet Hungry Lions at Olympia Park Stadium.

Saturday’s matches see Upington City host Native at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium, Lerumo take on North-West University at Dobsonville, University of Pretoria welcome Midlands Wanderers to Tuks Stadium, and Magesi play The Bees at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
