Chelsea and Fulham complete EFL Cup third-round line-up
Chelsea and Fulham secured the final two places in the third round of the English League Cup with victories over Wimbledon and Luton Town respectively.
Chelsea recorded a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, with Danny Welbeck scoring on his debut after joining the club. The forward opened the scoring five minutes after half-time, converting a chance created by Malo Gusto in the 50th minute.
The hosts then doubled their advantage when Wimbledon defender Hakim Odofin turned the ball into his own net, confirming Chelsea’s progression to the next round.
Fulham were also comfortable winners in front of their home supporters at Craven Cottage, defeating Luton Town 3-0.
Emile Smith Rowe put Fulham ahead in the 37th minute before Rodrigo Muniz added a second five minutes later. New signing Gonzalo Garcia completed the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time at the end of the match.
The third-round draw had already been made on Wednesday evening, before the final two second-round fixtures were played. As a result, Chelsea and Fulham knew their potential opponents before taking to the pitch.
Chelsea will face Leeds United in the next round, while Fulham have been drawn away to West Ham. The third-round matches are scheduled to take place between 7 and 14 September.
