Pyramids FC maintain perfect start as Youssef Obama inspires win over Abu Qir Fertilizers

Pyramids FC made it two wins from two in the Egyptian Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers, as goals from Youssef Obama and Awda Fakhouri kept the club at the top of the table.

Rolani Mokwena’s side now have six points and have yet to concede a goal this season. Their latest success followed a 3-0 victory against Ghazl El Mahalla in the opening round, giving Pyramids FC the strongest possible start to their league campaign.

Abu Qir Fertilizers, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat after beginning the season with a 1-0 win over National Bank of Egypt.

Mokwena named an unchanged starting XI, selecting the same side that began the opening-day victory against Ghazl El Mahalla.

Pyramids FC started positively and came close to taking the lead in the 12th minute. Waleed El Karti struck a powerful effort, but the Abu Qir Fertilizers goalkeeper produced a save to keep the score level.

The visitors eventually broke the deadlock shortly before half-time. Karim Hafez delivered an excellent pass to Youssef Obama, who finished from the left side of the penalty area to put Pyramids FC in front.

The Egyptian Premier League leaders doubled their advantage only three minutes after the interval. Ahmed Sami supplied the pass for Awda Fakhouri, who found the net with a well-struck effort from outside the area in the 48th minute.

Fakhouri appeared to have scored again eight minutes later, but the goal was ruled out following a review by the video assistant referee.

Pyramids FC also had another goal disallowed when Youssef Obama was judged to have been in an offside position.

Abu Qir Fertilizers threatened to reduce the deficit when Ali Hussein met the ball with a header, but his attempt struck the post and denied the home side what would have been their first goal of the match.

Pyramids FC held on to secure their second league victory and continue their unbeaten, unblemished start at the top of the Egyptian Premier League standings. They have scored five goals across their opening two matches without conceding.

The result also marked a second consecutive clean sheet for Mokwena’s team, who will now turn their attention to their third-round meeting with Al Masry on Monday.

Abu Qir Fertilizers will look to respond when they face Al Ittihad Alexandria on Wednesday in the same round of fixtures.
