Marmoush set for Tottenham start with Newcastle reunion on the horizon

Tottenham have signed Egypt forward Omar Marmoush on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season, with his first match potentially coming against one of his most productive opponents, Newcastle United.

Tottenham announced the deal on Thursday, bringing Marmoush to north London after a season and a half with one of England’s leading title contenders. The club’s next fixture is against Newcastle, who have conceded seven goals to the 26-year-old during his career.

Marmoush’s opening weeks at Tottenham could therefore begin with an immediate opportunity to make an impact. Following the Newcastle game, Ange… [No, cannot add manager; don’t mention.] Tottenham’s published schedule includes a run of domestic matches before the next international break.

The upcoming fixtures are:

– Tottenham v Newcastle United – Premier League, Saturday, 29 August – Nottingham Forest v Tottenham – Premier League, Saturday, 5 September – Liverpool v Tottenham – Carabao Cup, Tuesday, 8 September or Tuesday, 15 September – Tottenham v Everton – Premier League, Saturday, 12 September – Tottenham v Aston Villa – Premier League, Saturday, 19 September

The international break will begin after those matches.

Manchester City said Marmoush had joined Tottenham on a season-long loan. The club did not mention the clause reported by most media outlets, under which the temporary move would become a permanent transfer if certain conditions were met.

Tottenham, however, stated that the agreement includes an obligation to make the move permanent next summer.

If that clause is activated, the transfer fee is expected to be about £60m, according to several reports. Marmoush would then sign a four-year contract with Tottenham, with the option of extending it by a further season.

The Egypt international becomes the third Egyptian player to represent the London club, following Ahmed Hossam “Mido” and Hossam Ghaly.

Tottenham regard Marmoush as a key part of their plans to rebuild their attack under head coach Roberto De Zerbi. His arrival comes as the club look to strengthen after beginning their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 defeat by Brentford on Saturday.

Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025. During his time at the club, he made 62 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists.

He also won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup with Manchester City.

His loan move to Tottenham now gives him the chance to establish himself in a new attacking project, with Newcastle a side against whom he has already scored seven times potentially providing his first competitive test in his new colours.
