Tottenham welcome Omar Marmoush as Manchester City loan sets up permanent move

Tottenham Hotspur have officially signed Egypt forward Omar Marmoush from Manchester City on a season-long loan, with an obligation for the London club to make the transfer permanent next summer.

The move was announced on Thursday, with Tottenham presenting Marmoush as one of the leading additions to head coach Roberto De Zerbi’s plans during the summer transfer window.

The club welcomed the 27-year-old through its official website under the headline “Welcome, Omar”, while also publishing a video across its social media channels. The announcement included footage of the Tottenham supporters’ association in Egypt welcoming the forward to the club.

Marmoush said he was delighted to have completed the move and was looking forward to beginning his time in north London.

“It’s a great feeling to be here, I’m very excited to start my journey with the team and I can’t wait to meet the fans,” he said.

“Tottenham is one of the biggest clubs in England, if not the world, and the club’s project was very attractive to me. I spoke with the head coach and was very impressed by what he said. I’m confident that our passion for football will help us achieve success together.”

The transfer represents a significant addition to De Zerbi’s attacking options, with Tottenham’s sporting director Johann Lange describing Marmoush as a player capable of performing at the highest level.

“Omar is a player with great quality, and he has proved his ability to shine at the highest levels. We believe he will be an important part of achieving our objectives in the coming years, and we look forward to seeing him make a strong contribution to the team,” Lange said.

De Zerbi also welcomed the arrival of the Egypt international, highlighting the qualities he believes Marmoush will bring to Tottenham’s forward line.

“Omar is exactly the type of player we want at this club. He is ambitious, hungry for success and possesses exceptional attacking quality, as well as pace, intelligence and a threat in front of goal. I believe he can take our attacking strength to a new level,” the Italian said.

Marmoush began his career with Wadi Degla before moving to Germany to join VfL Wolfsburg. He later impressed during a loan spell at VfB Stuttgart, but his profile grew significantly after he established himself at Eintracht Frankfurt.

During his time with Eintracht Frankfurt, Marmoush scored 37 goals and provided 20 assists in 67 appearances.

He joined Manchester City in January 2025 and made a strong start to his Premier League career. One of the highlights of his opening period came when he scored a hat-trick against Newcastle United.

Marmoush also won the Premier League’s Goal of the Season award and helped Manchester City claim the EFL Cup and FA Cup before moving on to begin a new chapter with Tottenham.

At international level, Marmoush has won 55 caps for Egypt and scored 11 goals. He has appeared in three editions of the Africa Cup of Nations and played at the FIFA World Cup for the first time this summer.

His move to Tottenham continues a rapid rise from Egyptian football to the Premier League, while the agreement with Manchester City gives the north London club a route to secure his long-term future next summer.
