Liverpool transfer for PSG winger Bradley Barcola ‘on track’

Transfer negotiations between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain over a deal for France winger Bradley Barcola are “on the right track”, according to a source close to the discussions.

Barcola has reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool, while the two clubs are understood to have settled on a fee that could eventually reach 140m euros (£120m).

If completed, the transfer would make the 23-year-old Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing, behind Alexander Isak. It would also represent the highest fee ever paid for a player from Ligue 1.

Barcola has not played for PSG this season as speculation over his future continues.

Liverpool have been seeking greater strength in the wide areas since club great Mohamed Salah left at the end of last season. They have already recruited Spain winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna during the current transfer window, but Barcola would represent a major statement of intent for new Reds manager Andoni Iraola.

The France international scored three goals during his country’s run to the semi-finals of the recent World Cup. Although he was not an automatic starter at PSG, he faced strong competition from Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.

Despite that rivalry for places, Barcola played an important role as PSG secured successive Champions League titles. Since joining the Paris club from Lyon in 2023, he has also won three Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups.

Barcola has scored 39 goals in 152 appearances for PSG.

Liverpool are attempting to recover from a difficult campaign last season. Their defence of the Premier League title ended with a fifth-placed finish, a result which led to the dismissal of manager Arne Slot.

The club began the new season with a 2-2 draw at Newcastle last weekend.

PSG, managed by Luis Enrique, have also been active in the transfer market. The French champions have sold Goncalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani and Lee Kang-in, while adding Maghnes Akliouche, Ferran Torres and Lucas Digne to their squad.

A move for Barcola would therefore be a major development for both clubs. Liverpool would add a forward who has contributed to PSG’s recent success in domestic and European competition, while the Ligue 1 side would lose a player who remains part of a highly competitive attacking group.

The proposed fee would underline the scale of Liverpool’s ambition as they seek to improve after last season’s disappointing finish. For PSG, Barcola’s absence at the start of the campaign and the ongoing negotiations have intensified uncertainty over whether he will remain in the side under Enrique.

The source’s assessment that the deal is “on the right track” suggests discussions are progressing, although the transfer has yet to be completed.
