Real Madrid announce signing of Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei Oppong from Granada

Spanish giants Real Madrid have signed Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei Oppong from Granada on a three-year contract.

The 21-year-old centre-back joins from the Spanish second-tier club in a deal reportedly worth about €2m, after completing his medical.

Naasei will initially link up with Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve side, as he continues his development and looks to make his way into the first-team set-up.

Real Madrid moved to secure the defender after he attracted interest from several clubs, with an agreement eventually reached with Granada for his transfer.

Naasei joined Granada in 2023 and progressed through the club’s youth system before making the step up to senior football.

He has made two appearances for Granada in the Segunda Division this season, building on his progress since breaking into the first team.

The Accra-born defender is capable of playing at both centre-back and right-back, qualities which have helped increase his profile in Spain.

Naasei also made his senior debut for Ghana in May, featuring in the Black Stars’ international friendly against Mexico.

His move to Real Madrid marks a significant step in his career and gives him the opportunity to develop within one of the world’s most prestigious football academies.

The immediate focus will be on establishing himself at Castilla, with the longer-term ambition of earning a place in Real Madrid’s senior squad.
