Barcelona have agreed a four-year contract with Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, with the club confirming his move from Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Barcelona announced the deal on Thursday, bringing in the experienced goalkeeper to strengthen their options in goal for the coming period.

“An agreement has been reached between Barcelona and Fenerbahce for the transfer of the Croatian goalkeeper, who has signed a contract for four seasons until 30 June 2030,” the Catalan club said in a statement on its official website.

Livakovic’s immediate role at Barcelona has yet to be decided. He could remain with the first team as the second-choice goalkeeper, or spend the 2025-26 season on loan before returning to the club next season, when the contract of veteran Poland international Wojciech Szczesny expires.

The Croatia international began his development in the youth systems of Zadar and Zagreb before joining Zagreb’s senior side for the 2012-13 Croatian top-flight season. He spent four seasons with the club before moving to Dinamo Zagreb for the 2016-17 campaign.

Livakovic remained at Dinamo Zagreb for seven seasons, making 295 appearances. During that period, he conceded 249 goals and recorded 137 clean sheets, while helping the club win seven league titles.

His performances earned him a move to Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023. Livakovic played 74 matches during his two seasons with the Istanbul-based club and kept 24 clean sheets.

He then joined Girona on loan in the summer of 2025 but did not make an appearance for the Spanish side.

The Croatian goalkeeper returned to Dinamo Zagreb during the winter transfer window, again on loan. He featured in 15 matches, conceded only 10 goals and kept eight clean sheets, contributing to the club’s league title success.

Livakovic has been an established member of the Croatia national team since 2017. He has appeared at the last three editions of the World Cup – 2018, 2022 and 2026 – as well as the last two European Championship tournaments in 2021 and 2024.

He was part of the Croatia sides that won the silver medal at the 2018 World Cup and the bronze medal at the 2022 tournament.

Barcelona’s announcement completes a new addition to their goalkeeping group, although the club has not yet confirmed whether Livakovic will stay as deputy goalkeeper or leave temporarily on loan. His longer-term return is expected to be linked to the end of Szczesny’s contract next season.
