Asyut Petroleum hold Smouha to goalless draw in Egyptian league

Asyut Petroleum earned a second consecutive draw in the Egyptian league after holding Smouha to a goalless stalemate at Borg El Arab Stadium.

The match, which kicked off at 17:00, produced few clear opportunities, with both sides struggling to create a decisive opening during the 90 minutes. Only four attempts found the target in total, two from each team, despite 19 efforts overall.

Asyut Petroleum goalkeeper Amgad Youssef made the first significant intervention of the game after eight minutes. He denied Smouha forward Papy Badji when the striker broke through and found himself in a one-on-one position.

Smouha responded by creating pressure of its own, but the home side was unable to turn possession and attacking moments into a goal. Ahmed Khaled came closest for Asyut Petroleum before the interval, forcing goalkeeper Ahmed Miheub to save a powerful shot in the 37th minute.

The opening period ended without either team finding the breakthrough, with both defences largely controlling the game and the goalkeepers dealing with the few efforts that tested them.

Smouha attempted to make a stronger start after half-time. Khaled El-Ghandour tried his luck early in the second half, but his effort lacked power and was comfortably gathered by Youssef.

Asyut Petroleum then produced one of its clearest chances of the evening in the closing stages. Joshua Ejagie rose to meet a cross in the 85th minute, but Miheub reacted well to keep out the header and preserve Smouha’s clean sheet.

Neither side could create another clear opening during the remaining minutes, and the match finished 0-0.

The result gives Asyut Petroleum a second point from its opening two fixtures. The team had begun its campaign with a 1-1 draw against Montakhab El Suez Petrojet in the first round.

Smouha, meanwhile, claimed its first point of the season. It had opened the campaign with a 1-0 defeat by Al Masry, leaving the club still searching for its first victory after two matches.

The draw reflected a tightly contested encounter in which chances were limited at both ends. Asyut Petroleum’s Amgad Youssef and Smouha’s Ahmed Miheub were the key figures, each making important saves to ensure that the match remained level throughout.

Despite the lack of goals, both teams leave Borg El Arab Stadium with a point. Asyut Petroleum remain unbeaten after two rounds, while Smouha have halted its losing start but must improve its attacking threat in the next fixture.
