Egypt drawn to face Libya first and Algeria last in 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations qualifiers

Egypt’s Under-20 side will begin their North Africa qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations against Libya on 24 September, after the draw was made for the regional tournament.

The competition is scheduled to take place in Ismailia in September, with Egypt set to play four matches in the five-round qualifying programme.

Egypt’s opening fixture against Libya will be followed by a second-round bye, meaning Wael Reyad’s side will not play in the next round of matches.

They will return to action on 30 September when they face Tunisia before meeting Morocco on 3 October. Egypt will then complete their qualifying campaign against Algeria on 6 October.

The draw has given Egypt a clear sequence of fixtures, beginning with Libya and ending against Algeria. Their two matches against Tunisia and Morocco will come in the space of three days, creating the busiest part of their schedule.

The North Africa qualifiers will determine the region’s route towards the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. Egypt are preparing for the tournament under head coach Wael Reyad, who is in charge of the youth national team.

The fixtures will be played as part of the North Africa region’s qualifying competition, with the matches taking place in Ismailia.

Egypt’s campaign therefore opens with a meeting against Libya before the team sits out the second round. The side will then face three opponents in the closing stages of the competition, with matches against Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria providing the decisive finish to their programme.

The final fixture against Algeria on 6 October will be Egypt’s last opportunity in the scheduled qualifiers to strengthen their position in the regional competition. Their first match, against Libya on 24 September, will mark the start of the team’s bid to reach the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations through the North Africa qualifying tournament.

Wael Reyad will lead Egypt throughout the campaign as the team prepares for the matches in Ismailia.
