Stellenbosch FC loan Wonderboy Makhubu to Kruger United with permanent option

Stellenbosch FC have confirmed that attacker Wonderboy Makhubu will spend the 2026-27 season on loan at newly promoted Kruger United, who will have the option to sign him permanently at the end of the campaign.

The 29-year-old joined the Cape Winelands club in January but struggled to secure regular first-team football, leading to his temporary departure.

Makhubu was included in Kruger United’s matchday squad for the first time on Tuesday and made his debut in their 2-0 Betway Premiership defeat by Durban City.

Stellenbosch announced the move in a club statement, which said:

“Stellenbosch FC can confirm that Wonderboy Makhubu has completed a season-long loan to Kruger United ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

“In terms of the loan agreement, newly promoted Kruger United retain the option to purchase Makhubu’s services on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

“The 29-year-old was named in United’s matchday squad for the first time on Tuesday and made his debut during their 2-0 Betway Premiership defeat to Durban City.

“He previously joined Stellenbosch in January and made 13 appearances across all competitions, scoring his solitary goal during a 1-1 league draw against TS Galaxy in March.

“The loan presents Wonderboy with an opportunity for regular first-team football, and the Club looks forward to seeing his continued growth over the course of the season.”

During his time with Stellenbosch FC, Makhubu made 13 appearances in all competitions. He scored once, finding the net in the 1-1 league draw against TS Galaxy in March.

His record also included two red cards, although he was unable to establish himself as a regular starter after arriving at the club in January.

The agreement gives Kruger United the opportunity to make the move permanent once the season-long loan has ended. The club had already handed Makhubu his first appearance before the transfer was formally highlighted by Stellenbosch, with the attacker featuring in Tuesday night’s loss to Durban City.

For Kruger United, Makhubu’s arrival provides an additional attacking option during their first campaign after promotion to the Betway Premiership. For the player, the loan represents a chance to play more consistently after limited opportunities at Stellenbosch.

The move is the latest confirmed departure from Stellenbosch FC, while Makhubu now begins a new chapter with Kruger United during the 2026-27 season.
