Omar Marmoush set for Tottenham medical as loan move from Manchester City edges closer

Omar Marmoush has been given permission to undergo a medical with Tottenham Hotspur after saying goodbye to his Manchester City team-mates, bringing his proposed move to the London club closer to completion.

The Egypt international is expected to join Tottenham on loan with an obligation to buy for £50m, plus a further £10m in add-ons. Of the additional amount, £5m is guaranteed.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Marmoush is preparing to complete his medical before finalising the transfer. The 27-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract with an option to extend for another season.

The agreement does not include a sell-on clause for Eintracht Frankfurt, Marmoush’s former club.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Marmoush will officially sign for Tottenham on Thursday.

The move follows several weeks of speculation over Marmoush’s future at Manchester City. The forward has been seeking a greater opportunity to play regularly after finding it difficult to establish himself as a consistent starter at the Premier League club.

Tottenham intensified their efforts to sign him while also negotiating with Manchester City for the Brazilian forward Savinho. They have already completed that deal for £75m, with a further £10m potentially payable in add-ons.

Reports in the English media had previously indicated that Tottenham and Manchester City had reached an agreement for Marmoush to move initially on loan. The proposed purchase clause, worth £50m, would become mandatory if specified conditions were met.

Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 after making a significant impact in Germany. His performances earned him the chance to continue his career in the Premier League, but he has faced strong competition for places across City’s attacking positions.

He scored eight goals for Manchester City last season but started only 16 matches in all competitions. That limited starting role increased his desire to move to a club where he could play a more prominent part.

Negotiations between the two clubs have advanced considerably in recent days. The transfer is now understood to be awaiting the completion of Marmoush’s medical and the final administrative steps before an official announcement.

His potential arrival would form part of a major summer rebuild at Tottenham. The club have spent more than £300m in the transfer window as they seek to reshape their squad after a difficult season in which they finished 17th in the Premier League.
