Al Ahly appoint Khaled Morsi as acting executive director after Saad Shalaby steps down

Al Ahly have appointed Khaled Morsi as acting executive director after accepting Saad Shalaby’s decision to leave the role.

Morsi, who is currently director of the club’s Al Jazira branch, was named to the position at a meeting of Al Ahly’s board on Tuesday.

The Egyptian club said Shalaby had submitted his apology for not continuing as executive director on more than one occasion because of health-related circumstances. The board accepted his decision and thanked him for his work in serving Al Ahly and protecting the club’s interests.

Morsi will now take charge of the club’s executive administration on an acting basis, following the board’s decision to appoint him in place of Shalaby.

Shalaby to continue as investment and commercial adviser

Although he is leaving his executive position, Shalaby is set to continue working with companies owned by Al Ahly as an investment and commercial adviser.

The club said that cooperation would take place according to proposals submitted by those companies. Any resulting contract will be subject to a specific time limit: no agreement may run beyond the current term of Al Ahly’s board, which ends in 2029.

Al Ahly also clarified the administrative, technical and financial arrangements governing Shalaby’s consultancy work. In carrying out his advisory duties for the boards of the companies involved, he will report solely to the individual company concerned.

The club stressed that, in relation to those consultancy responsibilities, Shalaby will not be subject to the authority of Al Ahly’s board, its president or the club’s executive administration.

The appointment of Morsi therefore separates the club’s executive leadership from Shalaby’s planned commercial and investment role. Morsi’s existing position as director of the Al Jazira branch preceded the board’s decision to place him in charge of the club’s executive management.

Al Ahly’s announcement included an expression of appreciation for Shalaby’s contribution during his time as executive director. It also confirmed that the new arrangements concerning his advisory work would depend on the offers made by the club’s companies and remain limited by the end of the board’s current mandate.

The club did not announce any further changes to the administration beyond Morsi’s appointment and the revised role for Shalaby.
