Ouaddou backs Radiopane to thrive after decisive Pirates display

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says Boitumelo Radiopane has “everything to be successful” after the striker made a telling impact in the Buccaneers’ 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United.

Radiopane marked his first start of the campaign with a goal and an assist as Orlando Pirates strengthened their position at the top of the Betway Premiership on Tuesday night.

The result was the first of three meetings between the two sides in the space of a week, with Orlando Pirates due to face Sekhukhune United again in the second leg of the MTN9 semi-finals on Saturday.

Ouaddou revealed that Radiopane had been told in advance that he would be selected and praised the forward for making the most of his opportunity.

“I told him, I told him that from yesterday that he’s going to start,” Ouaddou told SuperSport after the game.

“I told him that there are some games you have to take your chance, for me he took his chance, it’s good to have one more striker that’s able to score, it’s very positive for his confidence.

“I think this boy has everything to be successful, he has the profile to be the true striker so I’m very happy for him to score today, let’s hope that he is going to keep going, to keep this spirit and maybe to score more goals.”

The performance provides Radiopane with a strong platform as he competes for a more regular role in the Orlando Pirates attack. His contribution came at a time when Yanela Mbuthuma has faced criticism after failing to score a goal this campaign.

For Ouaddou, the display was significant not only because of the result but also because it gave the team another forward capable of finishing chances and contributing to the attack.

Radiopane’s goal and assist ensured he took full advantage of his first opportunity to start this season. The win also allowed Orlando Pirates to maintain their place at the summit of the Betway Premiership before the sides meet again in cup competition.

The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday against Sekhukhune United, with a place in the MTN9 final at stake. Their 2-0 victory in Tuesday’s league meeting gives them momentum, while Radiopane will hope his performance earns him another chance to lead the line.
