Al-Qadsiah launch €10m move for Nigeria star Zaidu Sanusi

Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah have opened negotiations with FC Porto over a potential transfer for Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi, with the defender’s contract situation increasing the likelihood of a summer exit.

The 29-year-old left-back has entered the final year of his deal with the Portuguese champions but is yet to agree terms on a proposed two-year extension. Talks have reportedly stalled over salary demands, leaving Porto facing a decision over the player’s future.

With no agreement currently in sight, Porto are understood to be open to selling Sanusi this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next year.

Al-Qadsiah have now made their interest concrete, with officials from the Saudi club holding preliminary discussions with Porto’s hierarchy in recent hours. The Portuguese side are reportedly demanding €10 million for the experienced defender.

The Saudi outfit, who have been active in strengthening their squad, are keen to reach an agreement before the new season gets underway.

Porto face Sanusi contract dilemma

Sanusi’s situation presents Porto with an opportunity to cash in on a player who has been part of their first-team setup for several seasons, rather than allow him to depart as a free agent.

The Nigeria international joined Porto from fellow Portuguese club Santa Clara in August 2020 and has since developed into an important member of the squad.

During his spell at the Estádio do Dragão, Sanusi has enjoyed considerable success, winning eight domestic trophies, including Primeira Liga and Taça de Portugal titles.

His performances and versatility have also attracted attention from clubs outside Portugal. Serie A side Atalanta and Premier League club Leeds United have previously been linked with moves for the full-back.

However, Al-Qadsiah’s approach could now give Porto a clear route out of the contract impasse.

Sanusi weighing Saudi switch

For Al-Qadsiah, securing Sanusi would add experience and proven pedigree to their squad, while the defender could be tempted by the prospect of a move to the rapidly expanding Saudi Pro League.

Porto must now decide whether to accept the Saudi club’s proposal and part ways with Sanusi this summer or continue negotiations over a new contract.

With the player’s current deal set to expire next year and talks over an extension having stalled, the €10 million valuation could make a transfer increasingly attractive to the Portuguese champions.

Al-Qadsiah’s opening discussions therefore represent a significant development in Sanusi’s future, with the Saudi side pushing to turn their initial interest into a deal before the transfer window closes.
