Barcelona medical planned for Dominik Livakovic as club considers immediate future

Dominik Livakovic is due to arrive in Barcelona on Tuesday for a medical ahead of a proposed move from Fenerbahce, according to Sport.

The Croatia goalkeeper is expected to undergo his examination at the Joan Gamper Sports City before the remaining formalities of his transfer to Barcelona are completed.

Barcelona had planned to sign Livakovic now, although the 30-year-old is not expected to join the first team until the summer of 2027. The club is therefore still working to determine where he will play during the current season.

One option under consideration is sending Livakovic out on loan so he can secure regular first-team football. He could then return to Barcelona once Wojciech Szczesny’s contract expires next summer.

Barcelona are also assessing whether to keep the Croatia international in Hansi Flick’s squad for this season, meaning his immediate role at the club remains undecided.

Livakovic has previous experience of Spanish football, having played for Girona during the 2025-26 season. He subsequently moved to Fenerbahce, where he has made 74 appearances.

During that time, Livakovic has conceded 80 goals and kept 24 clean sheets.

The goalkeeper’s potential arrival comes as Barcelona prepare to defend their La Liga title after winning the championship last season following a closely fought battle with Real Madrid.

Barcelona began the new campaign with a 5-0 victory over Elche in the second round of La Liga. Their opening fixture, which was postponed, is scheduled to be played against Athletic Club on Thursday at Camp Nou.

The club’s decision over Livakovic is expected to reflect both his development and Barcelona’s goalkeeping plans beyond next summer, when Szczesny’s contract is due to end. For now, the Croatian must complete his medical before the transfer can proceed, while Barcelona weigh up whether a loan move or a place in Flick’s squad would be the best solution for the current campaign.
