Chippa United talks progress over Ibrahim Bance move

Chippa United are advancing in negotiations to sign former Marumo Gallants midfielder Ibrahim Bance, although his representative says discussions are also continuing with other clubs.

Bance, 25, is a free agent after his contract with Marumo Gallants expired at the end of last season. His availability came as a surprise after he had established himself as one of the standout performers in the side following his move from Ivorian league champions Stade d’Abidjan.

The Burkina Faso midfielder’s representative, Mike Makaab of ProSport International, has confirmed that talks with Chippa United are progressing.

“We are in discussions with Chippa and there are a number of other club’s we’re talking to at the moment, but I have to say our discussions with Chippa are progressing,” Makaab confirmed to iDiski Times.

Bance joined Gallants after developing at ASEC Mimosas and arrived in South Africa with previous experience of playing abroad. He had spells with Swedish club Helsingborgs IF and United States side Real Monarchs before making his mark in the Premier Soccer League.

He adapted quickly to South African football and became an important figure in the Marumo Gallants midfield. His performances were built around his technical ability in the defensive midfield role, where he operated as a composed and effective number six.

Gallants also reached the Carling Knockout Cup final during the campaign, with Bance included in the squad for their run to the showpiece match. They were beaten by Orlando Pirates in the final.

Despite his contribution to that campaign, Bance entered the market as a free agent once his Gallants contract ended. That led to reports linking him with a number of Premier Soccer League clubs, including Chippa United, who are also known as the Chilli Boys.

Chippa United have been strengthening their midfield options this season under Brandon Truter. The club have signed Mali midfielder Daba Diakite, added Muhammad Carrim after his spell in Belgium and completed a permanent deal to bring Goodman Mosele from Orlando Pirates.

Those additions mean competition for places in midfield is increasing, but negotiations over Bance indicate that Chippa United remain interested in adding another option to their squad. No agreement has yet been confirmed, with Makaab stressing that discussions with other clubs are also taking place.

Bance’s next move will therefore depend on the outcome of the ongoing talks, with Chippa United currently appearing to be the club making the strongest progress in securing his services.
