Manchester City agree €40m deal for Palmeiras winger Alan Elias

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Palmeiras to sign Brazilian winger Alan Elias for €40m during the current summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The proposed fee comprises €37.5m in guaranteed payments and a further €2.5m in potential add-ons. The length of Elias’s contract at Manchester City has not yet been finalised.

Palmeiras initially resisted the player’s departure, particularly because his contract contains a €100m release clause. However, the Brazilian club have now agreed terms with the Premier League side for the transfer.

The move is intended to help Manchester City replace Omar Marmoush and Savinho, who have reached an agreement with Tottenham.

Elias is expected to become Manchester City’s third signing of the summer. The club have already completed a deal for Elliott Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m and signed 17-year-old Jeremy Monga from Leicester City.

Manchester City are also close to completing a move for Morocco international Ayoub Bouaddi, who plays for Lille.

Elias came through Palmeiras’ academy before making his first-team debut in January 2025. Since then, he has made 96 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists.

During the current season, the Brazilian winger has scored four goals and supplied two assists.

The agreement with Palmeiras represents a significant reduction on the €100m release clause included in Elias’s contract, although the final structure of the transfer remains dependent on the agreed add-ons. His contract terms with Manchester City also remain to be settled.

The deal would add another attacking option to Manchester City’s squad as the club reshapes its wide areas following the expected departures of Marmoush and Savinho. Elias’s arrival would therefore form part of a broader summer recruitment programme that has already included major investment in midfield and youth talent.

Manchester City’s agreement for the Palmeiras winger follows the club’s move for Anderson from Nottingham Forest, with that transfer worth £116m, and the signing of Monga from Leicester City. Their pursuit of Bouaddi would further increase the number of new arrivals before the start of the new campaign.

Palmeiras had been reluctant to lose Elias because of his importance to the team and the size of the clause in his deal. Despite that initial position, negotiations have produced an agreement worth up to €40m, with €2.5m of the total dependent on additional conditions.

The transfer will now require the remaining contractual details between Elias and Manchester City to be completed before the move can be formally concluded.
