En-Nesyri given starting berth as Al-Ittihad target crucial Abha victory

Al-Ittihad head coach Jens Vejgang has named Youssef En-Nesyri in his starting line-up for Friday’s Saudi Pro League meeting with Abha, as the club attempt to stay in touch with the teams above them.

The match is the 12th round of the Saudi Pro League season and carries significant importance for Al-Ittihad, who are seeking to maintain their challenge near the top of the table.

Al-Ittihad are fourth on 23 points, four points behind third-placed Al-Hilal and five points adrift of joint leaders Al-Nassr and Al-Qadsiah. A win against Abha would therefore strengthen their position in the race at the top of the division.

Vejgang’s most notable decision came in attack. Morocco striker En-Nesyri has been selected to start, while Nigeria forward George Ilenikhena has been named among the substitutes.

The German coach has opted for Predrag Rajkovic in goal, with Mohannad Al-Shanqiti, Danilo Pereira, Saad Al-Mousa and Fares Ayadi forming the defence.

Mukhtar Ali, Richard Rios, Houssem Aouar and Georginio Wijnaldum make up the midfield, while Steven Bergwijn will join En-Nesyri in the front line.
