Amas Obasogie returns to Bendel Insurance in Nigeria after two-year African adventure

Nigeria international goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has returned to Nigerian Premier Football League side Bendel Insurance, signing a one-year contract with the Benin City club.

The 26-year-old is making his way back to familiar territory after gaining valuable experience abroad with Ethiopian Premier League outfit Fasil Kenema Sport Club and Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars.

Bendel Insurance confirmed Obasogie’s return on their official X account on Monday, bringing the goalkeeper back to the club he left in 2024.

His return comes after an extended spell away from Nigerian football, during which he tested himself in different African leagues and added to his experience at club level.

Obasogie bids farewell to Singida

Before sealing his return to Bendel Insurance, Obasogie brought his time with Singida Black Stars to a close, reflecting warmly on his experience with the Tanzanian club.

“It has been an honour to wear this badge and represent this great team. The memories, challenges, victories, and friendships I gained here will always remain special to me,” Obasogie said.

“Though my journey with the club is coming to an end, Singida Black Stars will always have a special place in my heart.

“I wish the club nothing but success and greater achievements in the future. Thank you, Singida Black Stars. Once a star, always a star.”

The goalkeeper’s departure marks the end of another chapter in a career that has increasingly taken him beyond Nigeria, with his spells in Ethiopia and Tanzania providing him with exposure to different football environments.

Back where it started

Obasogie has described his period away from Bendel Insurance as an important stage in his development, both professionally and personally.

He now returns to the two-time Nigerian champions with experience gained from competing outside his home country and will be expected to strengthen the club’s goalkeeping department.

For Bendel Insurance, the reunion provides an opportunity to bring back a goalkeeper who already understands the demands and expectations surrounding the club.

Obasogie will now begin a fresh chapter in Benin City, hoping his experience abroad can help him make an immediate impact and contribute to Bendel Insurance’s ambitions in the new season.

His return also represents a significant homecoming for the Nigerian international, who will be looking to build on the progress made during his time across Africa.
