Mohamed Salah goals: the milestones behind the Liverpool and Egypt star’s prolific career
Mohamed Salah has established himself among world football’s leading goalscorers, with a career that has taken him from Egypt to the highest levels of European football. The Liverpool forward’s record includes 257 goals for the English club, 66 for Egypt and a first goal for Trabzonspor after his move to Turkey in the summer of 2026.
Salah began his career with Al Mokawloon Al Arab, where he progressed through the youth system before joining the first team at the age of 18. During the 2011-12 season, he made 44 appearances and scored 12 goals, while also making an impression with Egypt’s youth teams.
His performances attracted interest from Europe and he moved to Swiss club Basel at the start of the 2012-13 season. Salah quickly announced himself on the continental stage, scoring 20 goals in 79 appearances for the club.
Basel faced Chelsea in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, and Salah scored against the English side in both matches. His performances caught the attention of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and helped open the way for a move to Stamford Bridge.
Salah joined Chelsea in the middle of the 2013-14 season, becoming the first Egyptian player to wear the club’s shirt. However, he struggled for regular playing time under Mourinho and made 19 appearances in his first season, scoring twice.
Seeking more opportunities, Salah moved to Fiorentina on loan in the Italian league. Under manager Vincenzo Montella, he was given greater responsibility and displayed his pace, finishing ability and attacking movement. He scored nine goals in 26 appearances before returning to Chelsea when the loan ended.
With a first-team place still unavailable in London, Salah went back to Italy on loan, this time joining Roma. His two seasons in the capital, initially under Luciano Spalletti, marked a major step forward in his development. He became an important attacking player alongside Roma captain and club legend Francesco Totti.
Salah joined Roma on loan for 5m euros in the summer of 2015. After one season, his performances persuaded the Italian club to activate the option to sign him permanently for 15m euros, with Chelsea also receiving a further 2m euros in add-ons. Across two full seasons with Roma, from the summer of 2015 to the summer of 2017, Salah played 83 matches, scored 34 goals and supplied 22 assists.
Liverpool record
Liverpool signed Salah in the summer of 2017, and the move transformed him into one of the most prolific forwards in the Premier League. Across seven seasons at Anfield, he played a central role in the club’s success, both through his goals and his creative contribution.
He helped Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and played a major part as the club claimed the Premier League title in the 2019-20 season, ending a 20-year wait for the championship.
From his arrival in the summer of 2017 onwards, Salah made 442 appearances for Liverpool and scored 257 goals. That record placed him third in the club’s all-time scoring list, ahead of figures including Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler. He also ranks fourth among the Premier League’s all-time leading scorers, a list headed by Alan Shearer.
Salah joined Trabzonspor in the summer of 2026 and needed only three matches to score his first goal for the Turkish club. That goal came against Basaksehir in the Turkish league.
Egypt
Salah is the current captain of Egypt, having been chosen to wear the armband despite not being the oldest member of the squad. His influence with the national team includes helping Egypt qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, ending a 28-year absence from the tournament.
He has won 119 caps for Egypt since making his international debut in 2011, scoring 66 goals and providing 37 assists across all competitions. That total puts him second in the country’s all-time scoring rankings.
Only Hossam Hassan, the current Egypt manager, has scored more for the national team. Hassan leads the list with 68 goals, leaving Salah two behind on 66.
Combining the figures listed for his clubs and country, Salah has scored 400 goals before counting his first goal for Trabzonspor. Including that strike, his recorded total rises to 401 goals.
