Mohamed Salah becomes third Egyptian to score for Trabzonspor

Mohamed Salah scored his first goal for Trabzonspor in their Turkish league meeting with Istanbul Basaksehir, becoming only the third Egyptian player to find the net for the club in the competition.

The forward opened the scoring in the eighth minute of the second-round match after taking advantage of an error by Istanbul Basaksehir’s goalkeeper. The goal marked Salah’s first for Trabzonspor since joining the club and came in his third appearance.

Salah’s strike also placed him alongside former Egypt internationals Ayman Abdelaziz and Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet”, who had previously scored for Trabzonspor in the Turkish league.

The match against Istanbul Basaksehir is Trabzonspor’s second fixture of the season. They began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Kasımpasa, leaving Salah to wait until his third game before opening his account for the club.

His goal against Istanbul Basaksehir ended that wait and gave him a place in Trabzonspor’s scoring history alongside two other Egyptian players. The club’s opening goal arrived early in the match, with Salah capitalising on the goalkeeper’s mistake to make an immediate contribution.

The 33-year-old joined Trabzonspor as a free agent during the current transfer window after his contract with Liverpool came to an end. His move brought him to the Turkish club without a transfer fee and offered him the opportunity to begin a new chapter after his time at Anfield.

Although he had already appeared twice for Trabzonspor, Salah had not previously scored for his new side. His finish in the eighth minute therefore represented both his first goal for the club and his first league goal in a Trabzonspor shirt.

The goal also continued the club’s connection with Egyptian footballers. Abdelaziz and Trezeguet had already established themselves as the previous Egyptian scorers for Trabzonspor in the Turkish league, before Salah added his name to that list.

Trabzonspor were looking for their first league win of the campaign after sharing the points with Kasımpasa in their opening match. Their second-round fixture with Istanbul Basaksehir provided Salah with his first opportunity to score in front of his new club’s supporters, and he took it in the opening stages after the defensive mistake.
