Mokwena praises Pyramids’ winning start after Ghazl El Mahalla victory
Pyramids FC head coach Rhulani Mokwena said his side’s 3-0 victory over Ghazl El Mahalla was a clear reflection of the work completed during pre-season.
The South African coach saw his team begin their league campaign with a convincing away win, securing three points in the opening round of the competition.
“Congratulations on this victory to everyone at Pyramids FC,” Mokwena told On Sport. “The preparation period was very good, and Ahmed El Shenawy told me it was one of the best pre-season periods the team has had.”
Pyramids took control of the match with a performance Mokwena felt demonstrated the benefits of their preparation before the new season. The coach said the players had worked thoroughly in training and then transferred those ideas into their first competitive fixture.
“We prepared well, and the match against Ghazl El Mahalla was a reflection of what we delivered and trained for during the preparation period,” he added.
The visitors scored three times through Jordanian forward Ouda Al-Fakhouri, Nasser Maher and Mahmoud Abdel Hafiz, also known as “Zlaka”.
Mokwena was particularly pleased with both the number of goals and the manner in which they were scored. He said the attacking patterns had been practised by the squad during pre-season, while the clean sheet provided another important positive from the opening-day success.
“I am very happy to have scored three goals, especially with the way they were scored, because we trained for all of them,” said Mokwena. “I am also happy to have kept a clean sheet, and we can continue to deliver this level in the coming matches.”
The result gave Pyramids three points before their next league fixture against Abu Qir Fertilizers on Thursday.
The victory was also a significant first official result for Mokwena since taking charge of Pyramids. The South African succeeded in guiding the club to a strong start in his first competitive appearance as their new manager.
Ghazl El Mahalla, meanwhile, will have to wait for their first points of the season. They will face Modern Sport on Thursday in the same round of league matches as Pyramids’ meeting with Abu Qir Fertilizers.
Pyramids’ three-goal margin and clean sheet ensured they began the campaign on a positive note, while Mokwena’s comments underlined his belief that the performance was the consequence of a productive preparation period rather than an isolated result. The coach said he was confident the team could maintain that standard in the games ahead.
