Orlando Pirates defender Moses Mphekgoane has joined Motsepe Foundation Championship club Hope FC on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old centre-back was officially unveiled by Hope FC, also known as The Immortals, after completing the move. The transfer had previously been reported by iDiski Times.

Mphekgoane arrives in Cape Town after an influential season with Orlando Pirates’ reserve team, which he captained to its first DStv Diski Challenge title in 11 years.

His leadership played a significant role in the Buccaneers’ success, with the young defender serving as captain as the reserve side ended its long wait for the competition’s trophy.

Hope FC confirmed the agreement in a statement, saying:

“Moses Mphekgoane joins us on a season-long loan from Orlando Pirates,” the club stated.

“A young defender with plenty of ability and a big future ahead. We’re excited to give him the platform to enjoy his football, express himself and contribute to our journey.

“Welcome to Cape Town, Moses.”

The move gives Mphekgoane the opportunity to continue his development with Hope FC while remaining contracted to Orlando Pirates. He will now join a squad competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, South Africa’s second-tier competition.

Hope FC began their campaign with a 1-0 victory over AmaTuks. That result came after Clayton Daniels was announced as the club’s new head coach earlier on Saturday.

Mphekgoane’s arrival therefore follows a positive start to the season for The Immortals, who have already secured three points in their opening match. The club will hope the defender’s experience of leading Orlando Pirates’ reserve side to domestic success can strengthen their squad during his loan spell.

For Orlando Pirates, the agreement allows one of the club’s promising young defenders to gain further senior football experience away from the reserve team. For Hope FC, it represents the addition of a player who arrives after captaining a title-winning side.

The defender’s next chapter will take place in Cape Town, where he will look to build on the form and responsibility he showed during the DStv Diski Challenge-winning campaign.

Mphekgoane’s move is officially a loan rather than a permanent transfer, with the deal set to run for the full season. Hope FC have welcomed him as a player with “plenty of ability and a big future ahead” and said they were excited to provide him with the platform to enjoy his football, express himself and contribute to their campaign.
