Arouna Sanganté and Sevilla Make It Two Wins From Two in LaLiga
Sevilla continued their perfect start to the LaLiga season with a 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés, securing a second consecutive win.
Arouna Sanganté’s Sevilla were once again victorious after following up their opening-day success against Rayo Vallecano with another impressive away performance.
Sevilla travelled to Bilbao on Saturday, 22 August, hoping to maintain the momentum created by their 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano in their first league match.
Luis Garcia Plaza’s side achieved that objective with a convincing result against Edin Terzic’s Athletic Bilbao.
The visitors were helped by an early dismissal for Athletic defender Yuri Berchiche, who was shown a red card in the 11th minute. Sevilla took advantage of their numerical superiority as the match progressed.
The Andalusian side opened the scoring after 15 minutes through Oso, giving Sevilla an early advantage at San Mamés.
Athletic, despite being reduced to 10 players, continued to push forward in search of an equaliser. The home side attempted to increase the pressure and regain control of the match.
Sevilla, however, remained dangerous and eventually extended their advantage early in the second half.
Ejuke scored in the 50th minute to make it 2-0, giving Sevilla greater control of the contest.
The visitors then added a third goal only seven minutes later. Isaac Romero found the net in the 57th minute as Sevilla moved further ahead.
Athletic Bilbao continued to search for a way back into the game and were eventually rewarded with a goal in the 70th minute.
Paredes pulled one back for the home side, reducing the deficit and giving Athletic some hope of mounting a late comeback.
Sevilla nevertheless held on to their advantage and completed a 3-1 victory.
For Arouna Sanganté, the Senegalese defender remains a regular starter for Sevilla as his side made it two wins from their opening two LaLiga matches.
The result represents an excellent beginning to the campaign for Sevilla, who have collected victories against both Rayo Vallecano and Athletic Bilbao.
After opening the season with a 2-1 home win, Sevilla followed it with a three-goal performance at San Mamés.
Their ability to capitalise on Athletic’s early red card proved important, allowing the visitors to make the most of their numerical advantage.
Oso’s first-half goal gave Sevilla the lead, while Ejuke and Isaac Romero added further goals after the interval.
Athletic’s late response through Paredes was not enough to change the outcome, with Sevilla completing another victory.
The Andalusian side now have two wins from two at the beginning of the LaLiga campaign, while Sanganté continues to feature as a regular presence in their defence.
