Al Nassr edge beyond Al Hilal’s mark with 89-game scoring streak
Al Nassr have established a new scoring record in the Roshn Saudi League, surpassing the previous mark held by their rivals Al Hilal after scoring against Al Riyadh on Friday.
The record-breaking goal came in the 18th minute at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in the Saudi capital, where Al Nassr were visiting Al Riyadh in the second round of the competition.
Saudi Arabia defender Abdulelah Al-Amri opened the scoring with a header after Brazilian midfielder Angelo delivered a corner into the penalty area. Al-Amri met the cross and directed it into the net to give his side the landmark goal.
According to statistics provider Opta, the strike meant Al Nassr had scored in 89 consecutive Roshn Saudi League matches. That is now the longest scoring run in the history of the competition.
Al Nassr had shared the previous record with Al Hilal, who had also scored in 88 successive league games. Friday’s goal moved them clear of their neighbours and traditional rivals.
The sequence began against Al Riyadh in December 2023, making the same fixture the starting point and the occasion on which Al Nassr moved beyond Al Hilal’s record.
Al Hilal’s run ended in February last season when they were held to a goalless draw by Al Ahli in the Roshn Saudi League. That result ultimately helped create the opportunity for Al Nassr to claim the outright record.
Al Nassr now have the chance to extend their streak, with a forward line that includes Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo and fellow Portuguese attacker Joao Felix, France international Kingsley Coman and Senegal forward Sadio Mane.
The club’s scoring run has underlined their consistency in front of goal over an extended period, while the latest milestone gives them another record over Al Hilal in the Saudi top flight.
The meeting with Al Riyadh was also accompanied by footage showing Al-Amri’s goal from several different angles, highlighting the defender’s headed finish from Angelo’s delivery.
Al Nassr’s new record comes in the early stages of the latest Roshn Saudi League campaign, but their 89-match sequence stretches back to December 2023 and covers consecutive league fixtures across the previous season and the start of the current one.
