Ronaldo’s 103rd Al Nassr goal puts him alongside club great in Saudi Pro League history

Cristiano Ronaldo moved level with Mohamed Al-Sahlawi as Al Nassr’s leading scorer in Saudi Pro League history after scoring in his side’s 4-0 win at Riyadh.

The Portugal captain came off the bench to score Al Nassr’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in the Saudi capital, securing his first goal of the current campaign.

Ronaldo had been on the pitch for 21 minutes when he converted a low cross from Ayman Yahya with his left foot. The result gave Al Nassr a convincing victory in the second round of the Saudi Pro League.

According to Thmanyah’s coverage, the strike was Ronaldo’s 103rd goal for Al Nassr in the professional era of the Saudi top flight. That put him level with former club striker Mohamed Al-Sahlawi at the top of the club’s all-time scoring list in the competition.

Morocco forward Abderrazak Hamdallah is third on Al Nassr’s list with 77 league goals.

Ronaldo now needs only one more goal to take sole possession of the record. The 39-year-old will have further opportunities to move clear during Al Nassr’s upcoming Saudi Pro League fixtures.

The goal also brought Ronaldo another significant statistical landmark. Opta said he had become the leading scorer in Riyadh derbies during the professional era of the competition, with 16 goals.

That moved him one ahead of Salem Al-Dawsari, the captain of Al Nassr’s Riyadh rivals Al Hilal, who has scored 15 goals in those matches.

Ronaldo also equalled Hamdallah’s record for the most Saudi Pro League goals scored against Riyadh. Both players have found the net six times against the club, with Hamdallah now playing for Al-Taawoun.

The latest achievements add to Ronaldo’s strong record since joining Al Nassr. He finished last season as the club’s leading scorer in the Saudi Pro League with 28 goals.

However, he ended the campaign third in the overall scoring standings. Al-Qadsiah forward Julian Quinones and Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney finished ahead of him.

Ronaldo’s appearance against Riyadh came as a substitute, but his late contribution completed a comfortable win for Al Nassr and ensured the match produced a series of notable milestones for the Portuguese forward.

The 4-0 victory leaves Al Nassr with a positive start to the new Saudi Pro League season, while Ronaldo is now within touching distance of becoming the club’s outright record scorer in the competition.
