Moses Sesay joins Colchester United from Southampton U21 in League Two loan move
England and Nigeria midfielder Moses Sesay has joined Colchester United from Southampton U21 on loan, bringing the 19-year-old central midfielder to the League Two club until 31 May 2027.
Sesay completed the move on 21 August 2026 after leaving Southampton’s development side, which competes in Premier League 2. The transfer is his first move into the senior league structure, with Colchester adding a young left-footed midfielder to their squad for the 2026-27 campaign.
The teenager began his youth career at Chelsea before moving to Southampton U18 in July 2023 on a free transfer. He progressed to Southampton U21 two years later, joining the club’s development group at the start of the 2025-26 season.
Sesay has been listed as a central midfielder throughout his recent career and is eligible to represent both England and Nigeria. His arrival at Colchester gives him a new environment in which to gain experience outside Southampton’s academy system.
The midfielder has yet to make an appearance in the National League Cup during the 2026-27 season. His loan move was completed before the end of August and will keep him with Colchester for the remainder of the campaign, after which he is scheduled to return to Southampton U21.
Colchester compete in League Two, while Southampton U21 operate in Premier League 2, marking a change in competition for Sesay as he continues his progression through the English football system. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the temporary move.
Sesay’s Southampton contract is listed as running until 31 May 2027, the same date on which his spell at Colchester is due to end. The agreement therefore places him with the Essex club for the season while retaining Southampton as his parent club.
