Nice accept Hamburger SV offer as Terem Moffi closes in on Bundesliga move
OGC Nice have accepted an offer from Hamburger SV for Nigeria striker Terem Moffi, bringing the 27-year-old closer to ending his difficult spell on the French Riviera.
The proposal was accepted on Wednesday, according to Nice-Matin, although the value of the bid has not been disclosed. Nice had hoped to secure a significant fee for Moffi but have now agreed to let the transfer progress after several weeks of uncertainty over the forward’s future.
The move is not yet complete, however. Moffi must still reach an agreement over personal terms with Hamburger SV, who have been monitoring the player for several weeks.
A deal between the striker and the German club would allow the transfer to be finalised and give Moffi the opportunity to start a new chapter in the Bundesliga. His position at OGC Nice had become increasingly complicated, particularly after his latest loan spell failed to lead to a permanent move.
Nice owner Ineos had originally wanted to sell Moffi for a substantial sum. Their expectations were partly based on the €8m purchase option negotiated with FC Porto during the winter transfer window.
Moffi joined the Portuguese club on a six-month loan but FC Porto ultimately decided not to retain him. With no offer matching Nice’s valuation emerging, the French club has had to lower its demands to help move negotiations forward.
Only an agreement between Moffi and Hamburger SV now stands between the striker and an official transfer. The Nigeria international remains under contract with OGC Nice until 30 June 2027.
Moffi is currently valued at €8m by Transfermarkt. His annual salary at Nice is reported to be €900,000, equivalent to 585,000,000 FCFA.
The proposed move would offer Moffi a route back into regular first-team football after his situation at Nice became unsettled. The striker’s next step depends on whether he can agree terms with Hamburger SV, with the German club representing a possible change of direction in his career.
OGC Nice are due to begin their Ligue 1 campaign against Lorient. For that match, betting company 1xbet lists Nice as the favourites at 2.15, with a draw priced at 3.45 and a Lorient victory at 3.20.
Moffi’s departure, if completed, would leave Nice having accepted a lower return than initially hoped. The club had sought to benefit from the terms of the FC Porto agreement but was unable to turn the loan into a permanent transfer. Hamburger SV’s offer has therefore provided a way for the two parties to make progress, although the player’s contract negotiations remain outstanding.
