Al Ahly Tripoli sign former Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele on a two-year deal

Al Ahly Tripoli have announced the signing of Fiston Mayele, the former Pyramids striker, after the Democratic Republic of the Congo international’s contract with the Egyptian club expired at the end of last season.

The Libyan club confirmed that Mayele has joined on a two-year contract. FilGoal.com had previously reported that the forward would move to Al Ahly Tripoli following the conclusion of his agreement with Pyramids.

Mayele leaves Pyramids after three seasons in which he became one of the most influential players in the club’s history. His time in Egypt included a series of historic achievements, including Pyramids’ first official trophy and their first continental title.

The striker made an immediate impact during his first season, scoring 21 goals in 41 appearances and providing five assists.

His goal tally fell to 18 in his second campaign, although he also contributed two assists. Despite the reduction in his scoring numbers, Mayele played a decisive role in one of the most important moments in Pyramids’ history.

He scored the only goal in the Egyptian Cup final against ZED, securing Pyramids’ first official trophy on 30 August 2024.

Mayele also delivered on the continental stage in the final of the African Champions League in the season before last. He opened the scoring in the second leg against South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, with Pyramids winning the match 2-1.

That victory gave Pyramids their first continental honour. They prevailed 3-2 on aggregate over Mamelodi Sundowns to complete a landmark triumph for the club.

Mayele finished that Champions League campaign as the competition’s leading scorer with six goals, further establishing his reputation as one of the continent’s leading forwards.

In his third season, he scored 11 goals in 41 matches and helped Pyramids win both the Egyptian Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.

Al Ahly Tripoli will hope the forward’s goalscoring record can strengthen a squad that won the Libyan Cup last season under former Egypt manager Hossam El Badry.

The Libyan side also includes Mustafa Shakshouk, who previously played for ENPPI, as well as Fakhri Lakay and Blaty Toure.

Mayele’s move ends his spell with Pyramids and begins a new phase of his career in Libya, where Al Ahly Tripoli will look to build on their domestic cup success and make the most of the experience and attacking pedigree he brings to the squad.
