Souhaib Driouch has revealed that differing medical assessments between PSV Eindhoven and Rangers played a major role in the collapse of his proposed move to the Scottish club this summer.

The Morocco international had travelled to Glasgow expecting to complete the transfer, only for the deal to break down at the final stage.

He subsequently returned to the Netherlands and resumed training with PSV.

Driouch said the issue centred on a minor thigh injury that became more noticeable after he suffered another blow during the period before his medical examination.

Medical assessment ends Rangers move

The PSV midfielder had been preparing to begin a new chapter in Scotland when the transfer unexpectedly fell through.

Driouch said the disagreement was not necessarily about the severity of his condition, but rather how it was interpreted by the medical teams involved in the proposed transfer.

Speaking to ESPN, he explained that a small muscle injury had been aggravated after he was struck on the knee, resulting in a bruise.

The Moroccan said: “It was an emotional period, but I’m back now. I think there was a difference of opinion among the doctors. I had a minor tear in my thigh muscle, and I think it was aggravated after I received a blow to the knee during that week, which caused a bruise.”

Driouch has since returned to training and said he is feeling well.

The 22-year-old was unable to influence the final decision once concerns about his physical condition became central to discussions between PSV and Rangers.

Different views over injury

Reports from Hesport had previously indicated that the medical departments of the two clubs had reached different conclusions about Driouch’s condition.

The disagreement reportedly extended to the expected recovery period and when the player would be ready to return fully to competitive football.

That difference in assessment ultimately contributed to the transfer collapsing after Driouch had already travelled to Scotland.

Instead of completing the move, the Moroccan returned to Eindhoven, where he is now working towards regaining his place in the PSV squad.

The player believes the physical problems that affected him during the recent period are now behind him.

Driouch disappointed but accepts situation

The failed transfer was naturally disappointing for Driouch, who had already begun imagining life at his prospective new club.

He had travelled to Scotland with the expectation of starting a new experience, only to find himself back at PSV after the medical disagreement prevented the move from being completed.

Despite the frustration, Driouch said he has accepted the situation and is pleased to have returned to Eindhoven.

He said: “I would have considered it a nice move. It’s unfortunate, but I’m also happy to be back. When you’re there, you’re already thinking about the new team, imagining yourself wearing a different shirt. But it’s not the first time this has happened to me. It’s frustrating, but that’s the reality now.”

His return to PSV means his immediate focus is once again on his current club and on getting back into contention.

Future remains uncertain

Driouch’s future at PSV is not necessarily settled, however.

Interest in the Moroccan remains, and there is still time during the remainder of the summer transfer window for another opportunity to emerge.

The failed Rangers move has therefore not closed the door on a departure from Eindhoven.

For now, though, Driouch appears content to allow the situation to develop rather than force a decision.

He said: “I will just wait and see what happens. If something comes up, I will deal with it. It is still unclear, but I am happy to be here and I feel comfortable in Eindhoven.”

After an emotionally difficult period that took him from preparing for a move to Scotland back to training in the Netherlands, Driouch is now waiting to see what comes next.
