Barcelona youngster Hamza Abdelkarim scores in emotional Al Ahly reunion

Hamza Abdelkarim marked his appearance at Spotify Camp Nou by scoring for Barcelona against former club Al Ahly in the Joan Gamper Trophy.

The young forward, who joined Barcelona’s first team under manager Hansi Flick, opened the scoring as the Spanish champions beat the African champions 2-1 in a friendly watched by a large crowd.

Raphinha added Barcelona’s second goal before half-time, while Al Ahly reduced the deficit early in the second half through Ahmed Mostafa Zizo.

Speaking to Barcelona-based journalist Ashraf Ben Ayad after the match, Abdelkarim said the occasion had been particularly meaningful.

“Thank God, of course it is a different feeling. I am happy to play at Camp Nou. It is a very special night for me,” he said.

The match had added significance for Abdelkarim because he was facing his former club. The striker acknowledged that the experience brought mixed emotions, but said playing against Al Ahly at a stadium as iconic as Camp Nou represented an exceptional moment in his career.

Abdelkarim also discussed his first weeks with Barcelona’s senior side under Flick, crediting the German coach for helping him settle into the group.

“Thank God, he gives me a lot of confidence. I have scored goals and adapted well to the group,” Abdelkarim said.

The forward thanked the Arab supporters who backed him during the game, adding: “Thank you, honestly. The fans deserve it today.”

Abdelkarim’s goal came against the club where he previously played. He chose not to celebrate out of respect for Al Ahly before kneeling in gratitude.

The fixture brought together Barcelona, the Spanish champions, and Al Ahly, the African champions, at Spotify Camp Nou. It was played in front of a strong attendance and featured a competitive tactical contest before Barcelona established their advantage with two first-half goals.

Al Ahly’s response came shortly after the interval when Zizo pulled one back, but Barcelona held on to secure victory in the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy match.

The post-match interview with Abdelkarim was shared in a video published by Ashraf Ben Ayad. Fans were also invited to discuss the story and other football news in the Koora forums.
