Barcelona unveil Rodri at Camp Nou during Al Ahly’s Joan Gamper visit

Barcelona have officially presented Rodrigo Hernandez, known as Rodri, to their supporters at Camp Nou, with members of the Al Ahly board watching the ceremony from the stands during the Egyptian club’s visit for the Joan Gamper Trophy.

The presentation took place on Wednesday before Barcelona’s friendly meeting with Al Ahly at Camp Nou. It also provided a significant moment for young forward Hamza Abdelkarim, who appeared at the stadium for the first time against his former club since completing his move to the Catalan side during the winter transfer window.

Rodri was introduced in a ceremony attended by a large crowd of Barcelona supporters. Wearing the club’s shirt, the midfielder received a warm reception as the home fans welcomed their new number 16.

Barcelona marked the occasion on social media with the message:

“Welcome our No. 16… Rodrigo Hernandez 🆕”

The club also posted:

“We are so excited, Rodri 🤩”

The event brought together two major football institutions from different countries, combining the tradition of Egyptian football with the atmosphere surrounding one of Spain’s most prominent clubs.

Al Ahly board members followed the presentation from the Camp Nou stands and exchanged congratulations with Barcelona officials and Rodri. Their presence added a diplomatic and sporting dimension to the occasion, reflecting the relationship between the two clubs and their interest in strengthening links through mutual visits and the exchange of administrative and technical expertise.

For Barcelona, the ceremony represented an important stage in Rodri’s arrival at the club. He has joined to strengthen the midfield, with supporters hoping he can make a significant contribution to the team over the coming seasons.

The presentation came as attention focused on the Joan Gamper Trophy fixture, a friendly match being staged at Camp Nou. The game also offered Hamza Abdelkarim the chance to face the side he previously represented after moving to Barcelona in the winter transfer period.

His appearance against Al Ahly gave the occasion an additional personal storyline, while the attendance of the Egyptian club’s board created a wider connection between the two institutions.

Al Ahly’s officials expressed their happiness at taking part in the event after the ceremony. They stressed the importance of such occasions in raising the profile of Egyptian football internationally and in creating further opportunities for sporting co-operation between Egypt and Spain.

The gathering was therefore more than a formal unveiling. It was also a meeting point between Barcelona’s latest squad addition, a former Al Ahly player returning in new colours and representatives of the Egyptian club, all within the setting of the Joan Gamper Trophy at Camp Nou.
