Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Jody February close to season-long loan move
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Jody February is close to completing a season-long loan move to Siwelele after being seen training with the Bloemfontein-based side this week.
The 30-year-old has been seeking a temporary transfer in order to play more regular first-team football. His move is expected to be finalised soon, with Mamelodi Sundowns having already agreed to the loan arrangement.
February had attracted interest from Sekhukhune United in recent weeks. However, that club subsequently signed goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi following his release from Orlando Pirates.
The situation at Mamelodi Sundowns changed with the return of Ricardo Goss, who has spent the past three seasons away from the club, including periods at Siwelele and SuperSport United. February then informed the club of his desire to leave on loan and secure more consistent playing time.
Reports from iDiski Times said February was training at Siwelele during the week. His representative, Mike Makaab of ProSport, confirmed that discussions over the move were at an advanced stage.
“He’s training at Siwelele, talks are at an advanced stage, Sundowns have agreed to the loan, we just need to finalise it, hopefully this week,” Makaab confirmed to iDiski Times.
The proposed move would give February the opportunity to compete for a regular starting place away from Mamelodi Sundowns, where opportunities have been limited since he joined the club in 2019.
He has made eight appearances for Mamelodi Sundowns since arriving at the club. During that time, he has also gained experience through loan spells with Cape Umoya United, Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu.
Although the agreement has been approved by Mamelodi Sundowns, the transfer still requires the remaining details to be completed before it can be formally confirmed. Makaab’s comments indicate that the parties were hoping to conclude the process during the week.
February’s possible move follows a period in which the goalkeeper has continued to remain part of the Mamelodi Sundowns squad while competing for opportunities in a position also occupied by Goss. His decision to seek a loan reflects the need for greater first-team involvement after making only eight appearances for the club since 2019.
